A Guide to groundwork preparation when installing Artificial Grass

Grade A Groundwork Guide (Really damp areas)

1 Excavation of area to approximate depth of 150mm.
2 This is a good time to install a treated timber/UPVC edging frame if required
3 Dispose of excavation waste via means of skips etc.
4 Import MOT- type 1 crushed stone approximate depth of 100mm.
5 Compact with compactor plate.
6 Insert LG geotextile membrane fabric, weed and sand loss control.
7 Import 6mm down crushed sharp sand approximate depth of 35mm.
8 Compact with compactor plate.
9 Screed out sand ready for laying of artificial grass.
10 Roll out artificial grass.
11 Tape and glue all joints if required.
12 Secure the grass down around the edges using secure ring stakes.
13 Sand fill the carpet with 30s brown quarts sand/rubber granules if required.
14 Brush up the pile with a stiff bristled brush.

Grade B Groundwork Guide (majority of domestic installations)

1 Excavation of area to approximate depth of 100mm.
2 This is a good time to install a treated timber/plastic leisure edging frame if required.
3 Dispose of excavation waste via means of skips etc.
4 Import MOT- type 1 crushed stone approximate depth of 50mm.
5 Compact with compactor plate.
6 Insert Leisure geotextile membrane fabric, weed and aggregate loss control.
7 Import 6mm down crushed sharp sand (zone 111) approximate depth of 45mm.
8 Compact with compactor plate.
9 Screed out sand ready for laying of artificial grass.
10 Roll out artificial grass.
11 Tape and glue all joints if required and cut to size.
12 Secure the grass down around the edges using galvanised stakes.
13 Sand fill the carpet with 30s brown quarts sand/rubber granules if required. (Optional)
14 Brush up the pile with a stiff bristled brush or power brush.

Grade C Groundwork Guide

1 Excavation of area to approximate depth of 50mm.
2 This is a good time to install a treated timber frame/plastic Leisure edging strips if required.
3 Dispose of excavation waste via means of skips etc.
4 Insert Leisure geotextile membrane fabric, weed and sand loss control.
5 Import 6mm down crushed sharp ( zone 111) sand approximate depth of 45mm.
6 Compact with compactor plate.
7 Screed out sand ready for laying of artificial grass.
8 Roll out artificial grass and cut to size.
9 Tape and glue all joints if required.
10 Secure the grass down around the edges using galvanised stakes.
11 Sand fill the carpet with 30s brown quarts sand/rubber granules if required (optional).
12 Brush up the pile with a stiff bristled brush or power brush.
